With the game season soon to be with us  are there any  game shooters  who shoot game with a muzzle loading or black powder hammer gun. What are the types prefered ,is it  walking up, driven birds,  or hide shooting for pigeons etc, and what is a favorite load.
For myself I prefere hide shooting  and driven game  using a volume load of 2.3/4 drms black powder to 1.1/16 oz of number 5 or 6 shot.

With another successfull game season over and some good bags recorded.Guns used for the driven game shoots were sxs hammerguns or sxs muzzle loaders ,black powder only.

hi i also do a lot of game and vermin control with muzzle loaders and pinfires with good results. my favorite muzzle loading shooting, is ducks and geese with big bore guns [which i have several]  they are very effective, with a reasonable charge they will do what you want. my personal opinion is that they pattern very well .

Four Bore.

What  bore size do you find best for fowling  is  it the mighty 4 or the easy on the shoulder 10.I did use the  big bores in the past  but now with my advancing years I go for the lighter bores.

PS How about a few images of your favourite

hi i tend to use a 4 bore or 6 for the geese, they are big guns but the recoil is reasonable due to the weight, then for tide or decoying 8 or 10 which is very effective. sadly to put some images on is beyond my capabilities at the moment.

I found the 6 bore  a good gun also ,yes the weight absorbes the recoil Enclosed is an image of a 6 bore tubelock by Alfred Clayton who was one of the gun makers to the famous fowler Peter Hawker who mentioned him in his diary
