Bore sizing, (Read 765 times)

Hi lads, just joined mlagb today, please excuse my basic knowledge on muzzle loaders, i normal collect and study english breech loaders, i have been given a few muzzle loaders, and was just wondering how to no what bore size they are, any help gladly welcome, thanks tim,

You will find that most s/b and sxs muzzleloading shotguns have their bore size stamped on the underside of the barrels at the breech end along with the proof marks .

GAUGE        CALIBER
4                 1.052
6                 .919
8                 .835
10                .775
12                .729
14                 .693
16                .662
18                .637
20                .615
plus or minus a few thousandths either way

Hi lads, well thanks for the help, very hard to see the marks, and at present the only measuring thing i have is my tape, the large gauge is 20mm and the smaller gun barrels are 17mm, again i've tried to up load images but with no luck, not computer literate yet, thanks again, tim,

To measure for the bore size it is best you have a internal caliper and measure 3 inches down the bore from the muzzle .If you read across the muzzle end of the barrels will give you a false reading because all original muzzle loading shotgun suffer from ramrod wear
